A little venting
I've not read this report and please pardon me while I use this post to vent a little bit. A reader emailed me yesterday in response to one of yesterday's highlights and we went back and forth on the fact that legal's impression of machine learning and artificial intelligence seems greatly at odds with those in the mainstream of ML and AI. If you listen to the hype in legal, its all easy peasy lemon squeezy. Buy this tool and a little bit of fluttering around the edges and you've got HAL 9000 at your command. The ML/AI world says it's not easy. It takes A LOT of data and time to create and use a training set. Aside from the fact that it fits the sales and marketing narrative, I don't get why this happens in legal. They are lots of legit, great tech tools that lawyers aren't using that don't involve this fantasy AI & ML. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for ML and AI efforts. But let's be realistic. Let's set expectations properly. It's best for super focused efforts and it isn't going to happen over night. Not ending anytime soon
Jonathan Gitlin's subtitle pretty much sums up the warning, "Material costs are rising too, and the shortage will continue into 2022." If you were hoping for 2022 to be a light at the end of the tunnel, think again. Get those orders in now as it may be quite some time before they get fulfilled. And expect shortages and rising prices to continue as we go forward. Read more at ars technica: Semiconductor firms can't find enough workers, worsening chip shortage

Incorrect or mismatched information
Infotrack reports that bad data is the number one reason why eFilings are rejected. "Out of all the formatting, eligibility, and case-specific details that are cause for rejection and could bring about future issues with your case, our analysis found that eFilings are most frequently rejected due to missing or incorrect information on the documents or in the eFiling workflow." Pas this post onto your trainers so they can help make sure this doesn't happen in your firm. Read more at Law Technology Today: The Number One Reason for Rejected eFilings
