Silence the AIs?
Free speech is a complex enough subject matter for humans, let alone throwing genAI into the mix. Jordi Calvet-Bademunt and Jacob Mchangama give you something to really think about as wwe go into the weekend. As researchers who study free speech, they contend that the self censorship that companies place on their generative AI tools do not meet United Nations standards. The conclude "Refusals to generate content not only affect fundamental rights to free speech and access to information. They can also push users toward chatbots that specialize in generating hateful content and echo chambers. That would be a worrying outcome." Consider how they arrive at that as you read more at LLRX Blog: AI chatbots refuse to produce 'controversial' output − why that's a free speech problem

Is it real or is it Memorex?
Doug Austin went to the effort of putting together a list of resources on spotting deepfakes. At the rate this is growing, it is in everyone's benefit to know a little more about it. Deepfake audio and video are a growing trend with very dangerous outcomes. So much so that Wells Fargo shut down its voiceprint service (a type of MFA) in light how easy it is now to fake a person's voice. Educate yourself so you aren't taken in by these AI generated fakes.
