Blame it on the power company

I've built out many offices in new and existing buildings over the decades, but I never had to worry about whether or not I'd have enough power. It would seem Elon musk has that issue in spades. His company, xAI, has a new supercomputer facility in Memphis, Tennessee and its going to need ALOT of power. They apparently don't have an agreement with the local power company yet. "Doug McGowen, president of Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), previously stated that xAI could consume up to 150 megawatts of power at peak times." But it seems "...Musk is side-stepping power issues by installing a fleet of 14 VoltaGrid natural gas generators that provide supplementary power to the Memphis computer cluster while his company works out an agreement with the local power utility." Those numbers are just staggering. Read more at ars technica: Elon Musk claims he is training "the world's most powerful AI by every metric"

Blame it on the EU

It would seem to me that there is plenty of blame to go around with the CrowdStrike issue last week, but it seems Microsoft wants to point the finger at the European Union. "Redmond says EU deal gave CrowdStrike the keys to the Windows kernel, allowing last week's huge IT outage to happen." Blame it on the other generations

It is hard to work in an environment these days that isn't composed of multigenerational teams. Deana Kardel and Traci Stuart write "Today's workplace is made up of roughly 19% baby boomers, 35.5% Generation Xers and 39.4% millennials. By 2030, Generation Z will make up about 30%, adding new perspectives, ideas and expectations to the mix." Good Samaritans

With full disclosure, my law firm is a customer of the Conversant Group. I've not been asked to comment nor am I being compensated for this highlight. As part of our remediation for the CrowdStrike incident we engaged one of their security engineers. Now also with full disclosure, I started working in the legal field in 1985. I first became a law firm CIO in 1992. I've been in legal for ages and dealt with many kinds of technologies and hundreds of vendors. I got an email the other day saying there would be no charge for those services. I can honestly say I've never experienced that in all my years. I've had vendors write down or write off work when they've screwed up or made mistakes, but never simply reduced the bill for excellent work to zero - just because. Just another data point when you're evaluating companies you want to partner with. Vendor mistakes are seen far and wide, the good stuff often goes unnoticed. Thank you and kudos to all the folks at the Conversant group.
