There have been many "What is AI?" that I have highlighted over the years. Here is another with a great graphic by Sandra Peter & Kai Remer. If you process graphic information more easily, then you will want to consider reading more at REAL KM: Wondering what AI actually is? Here are the 7 things it can do for you

Engineers & academics & lawyers?

It strikes me that the Allen curve sounds like something made up from Dilbert, but it is not, In communication theory, it is "a graphical representation that reveals the exponential drop in frequency of communication between engineers as the distance between them increases." Still following? Good. But what Adi Gaskell finds truly interesting is that "while the Allen Curve highlights that we're much more likely to interact with those within 10 meters of us, the Harvard research found that the most impactful interactions were with those we don't interact with very often and who work in very different disciplines." That is interesting! I wonder if it holds true for lawyers as well as it does for engineers and academia? Be sure to read more at REAL KM: Physical proximity is key to effective collaboration

The black box in the middle

Evan Schuman writes that the genAI third-party evaluation service market was crowded even before UL Solutions (connected to Underwriters Laboratories) entered. How reliable is this? Well its close to anyone guess. Evan also writes that in all cases, "the foundation model is off limits. But when evaluating questions about bias, accuracy, and related topics, the foundation model absolutely colors the results." I've been harping on AI explainability and transparency, but Forrester VP/principal analyst Brandon Purcell notes, "Even if you get perfect answers to 20,000 questions, an AI is going to have a black box in the middle of it. These foundation models are opaque." Read more at CIO: UL's leap into the genAI evaluation business raises key questions
