Vendors behaving badly
Consillio is in the hot seat for some bad behavior. Specifically "violating Title 7, Chapter 33 of the Texas Penal Code, which declares accessing a computer without the owner's consent a Class B Misdemeanor." It seems that Angelyn Olson was involved in a case and Consillio was supposed to "search her email based on a small number of terms." Instead apparently they "downloaded all of her emails over a 10-year period, including personal information and materials." A little bit of difference there! Then, to add insult to injury, after being told to secure the emails, Consillio destroyed them "after being notified of the violation of the search agreement." A symphony of FUD and FOMO
I think this qualifies as a post fomenting FUD and FOMO on AI. You start with the promises: "For example, Gartner expects customer satisfaction and revenue to grow by 25% for organizations that use AI. Similarly, McKinsey shows productivity increases of 20%-30%, and Accenture shares that AI reduces business costs by 10%." The promises and predictions are easy to find. Then you throw out the punch of failure: "Discouragingly, McKinsey, BCG, KPMG and Bain & Company agree that the risk of AI failure remains somewhere between 70% and 95%." Add a dose of it-failed-beacuse-of-you and you get a wonder recipe for a symphony of FUD and FOMO. An automated hat tip to the folks at SHIFT*BASE as you read more.

Adding to the c suIte
I think this a great post for all the law firms out there struggling with whether they need yet another C-level position. We've seen the rise of Chief Knowledge Officers, Chief Innovation Officers (and more) and now firms seem to be considering the Chief AI Officer role. Like the last post, I think the desire of many firms to have a CAIO is based mostly on FOMO. Fawad Bajwa asks a great question: "Do you really need a Chief AI Officer?" The answer, of course, is it depends, but Fawad also asks us to consider three other roles "beyond a Chief AI Officer." Id ont think, even the biggest law firms need to add a Chief AI Officer.
