PACER sucks & needs an upgrade
I know that most people think PACER sucks, but unlike Joe Patrice, I was not aware who exactly was to blame. Turning to Law360, it seems that "Recent mid-morning slowdowns of the federal courts database known as PACER in the Southern District of New York are caused by a profusion of data miners that ply their trade around the same time each day, a district official confirmed Tuesday." The slowdown was not what I expected as the main reason PACER sucks, but it is certainly a symptom of a much larger set of PACER problems. Read more at ABOVE THE LAW: PACER Sucks More Than Usual... 12 days of OpenAI
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me....??? Well in this instance it isn't likely to be a partridge in a pear tree! OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced a "12 days of OpenAI" starting today. It is a holiday inspired reveal of new AI features and products. What are you hoping for? The Billable Hour
Jordan Furlong has a good post on why law firms are as they are and why lawyers bill by the hour. About halfway through his post he notes, "But there is another way." He implores, "Don't just be a bunch of lawyers billing their time. Be a law firm." Lacking from his post is discussion of the issue that those buying the services are, for the most part, the same as those selling them.
I'm not sure there is enough in his arguments to make real change. I have to compliment him on his highly realistic (unlike so many other legal pundits) comment on AI's influence, "I do think AI will change this over the coming decade, but I don't know how much, and I can't even be entirely sure of that."
