Dashboards

I like Brooke Lively's post because it's all about what to track, not what-to-track-it-in. There is lots of good advice on what to track and how to present it. I'd argue the most important advice from her on the latter is: Keep it simple, Make it interactive and Review and adjust! I would also add, design for mobile. We've got a growing number of managers who want to see data on phones and tablets, not just large computer screens. Pass this along to your senior management or to your dev teams to read more at attorney@work: What Should Be on Your Law Firm Dashboard?

Blocked before it gets to you!

People download apps left and right to their phones with nary a thought of the potential downsides of that app. I always wondered what it takes to manage an app store and how much garbage doesn't get through. Now I know (at least for the Android Store).
2,300,000 Android apps blocked in 2024
158,000 developer accounts were banned
Nice to know! Now read your terms of service for apps AND read more at BLEEPINGCOMPUTER: Google blocked 2.36 million risky Android apps from Play Store in 2024

Digital poison

If you run a YouTube channel, have somewhat of a distrust of AI and want to learn "to poison any AI summarizers that were trying to steal my content to make slop," then this is the post for you. Read more at ars technica: How one YouTuber is trying to poison the AI bots stealing her content

temporAl confusIon

I've read about many ways to jail break generative AI systems, but this is the first that I've read about "temporal confusion." Apparently one can put "the LLM into a state where it did not know whether it was in the past, present, or future," and then override its "safety guidelines" and get "detailed instructions on sensitive topics, including the creation of weapons, information on nuclear topics, and malware creation." Apparently one create confusion on time and access some procedural ambiguity that "When combined, it is possible to put ChatGPT in a state where it thinks it's in the past but can use information from the future, causing it to bypass the safeguards in hypothetical scenarios." It sounds like something for Star Trek's Department of Temporal Investigations to look into. Read more at BLEEPINGCOMPUTER: Time Bandit ChatGPT jailbreak bypasses safeguards on sensitive topics
