Up, up and away!
Having just seen Superman 2025 yesterday with my son, I thought I'd highlight Joseph Lalonde's post first. Overall, I'd say it was a good movie, but with some very great scenes. My favorite characters in the movie did not include the lead, David Corenswet (Superman), but rather Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern) and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific). Green Lantern has always been one of my favorite DC comics growing up and I think Nathan Fillion portrayal of Guy Gardner being such an ass is so spot on! I think playing a good character is easier, while playing the dislikable character and getting the audience interested in them is so much more difficult. My son agreed with me and has also sat with me as I am rewatching Suits and we also both agree how good Rick Hoffman is at playing Louis Litt. But back to the main point, Joseph notes that "We need to understand what motivates people," and in the movie, Mister Terrific helps Lois Lane "Only because it'll piss off Green Lantern!" Pruitt Taylor Vince playing a very country bumpkin Pa Kent reminds us that our choices and our actions are what makes us who we are. Seek help from fellow humans
I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who is depressed, in pain or suffering to seek counseling and assistance. But based on this post by Benj Edwards, it would seem that counseling and assistance and should be sought from human and not artificial sources. The studies show why there is especially a gap here between the human and the artificial. "The models keep getting bigger, the marketing keeps promising more, but a fundamental mismatch remains: a system trained to please can't deliver the reality check that therapy sometimes demands." Turning the lights out
My first thought as I read the title to Stephanie Everett's post was exactly what she predicted, "That sounds amazing. But we could never pull that off." The results sound pretty amazing. I like her admonishment, "It's Not 'Can You?' - It's 'How Will You?'" So how would you shut down for a week?
