ChatGPT calls in sick
I was reading about OpenAI's ChatGPT worldwide outage and all the posts in my feed about agentic AI and wondered if we should consider this the AI equivalent of a worker calling in sick? It's sudden. You don't know how long they'll be out and it interrupts the workflow of the office. Now with humans you probably have someone able to back up the sick person or worst case you could go hire a temp. In the case of ChatGPT calling in sick, there is no second AI to provide coverage and you really can't go out and hire Claude or Gemini. I guess you can make a human backup for the AI. Unless vendors can provide 100% uptime (wouldn't that be nice!) When ChatGPT calls in sick, the organization or at least the AI workflows grind to a halt. As a side note, you have love totally useless error messages like "something seems to have gone wrong," and "There was an error generating a response." Deje vu
Bob Ambrogi, always on top of things, reports to us that "Legal research technology company Fastcase, which is now owned by Clio, has filed a federal lawsuit against AI-powered legal research platform Alexi, alleging breach of contract, trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation, relating to its use of data licensed from Fastcase." AI turns cold hard facts warm and soft
You'd think that of all the subjects available to it, AI would have the least issues with cold hard facts of science. No so it seems. Adi Gaskell writes, "A new study from Utrecht University found that these AI tools drew inaccurate or overly broad conclusions in up to 73% of cases when summarising scientific research. And when asked to be more accurate, they often did worse." Adi concludes, "The takeaway is clear: if we want AI to help people understand science, we need to be more careful about how we use it-and how much we trust it." I personally would not put the limiter of science in the warning. To me the takeaway is crystal clear, "If we want AI to help people understand anything, we need to be more careful about how we use it-and how much we trust it."
