Bicycles for the mind

My first reaction to Julie Bort's title and to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was to say I'd stop calling it slop when it isn't slop. And to be truthful, not all AI is slop. I think it's those experimenting/playing with AI and those out to make a quick buck with it that's producing slop. I named my Tuesday edition of the newsletter MICROSLOP after reading several articles about Microsoft adding AI to all aspects of Windows and users frustrations with being able to chose for themselves and thus naming it Microslop. Julie writes, "In his classic, intellectual style, Nadella wrote on his personal blog that he wants us to stop thinking of AI as 'slop' and start thinking of it as 'bicycles for the mind.'" With a little research, I discovered that's actually a metaphor used by Steve Jobs! Julie goes on, "If you parse through those syllables, you may see that he's not only urging everyone to stop thinking of AI-generated content as slop, but also wants the tech industry to stop talking about AI as a replacement for humans. He hopes the industry will start talking about it as a human-helper productivity tool instead." The former is harder to do, but I agree with him on the latter. But then if AI is to be a "human-helper productivity tool" isn't it something the user should evoke? Not something that helps whether he or she wants it or not? Consider that, as you execute a nice crisp tip of your hat (nothing sloppy now) to Stephen Abram as you read more at TechCrunch: Microsoft's Nadella wants us to stop thinking of AI as 'slop'

What is change management?

I suspect most pinions jobs involve change management. I know my job these days is less about the selection of technology and more about the change and adoption of that technology. I hjad no clue there were ten different change management models! They are: 1) Lewin's Change Management Model, 2) McKinsey's &-s Model; 3) Kotter's Change Theory; 4) Nudge Theory; 5) ADKAR Model for Change; 6) Bridges' Transition Model; 7) Kubler-ROss Chnage Curve; 8) The Satir Change Management Model; 9) Maurer 3 Levels of Resistance and Change Model and 10) CIOPages own Change Management Model. The writers at CIOPages have a good post about this subject and explore each of those models. I won't make any changes for you here as you offer a tip of the hat to Stephen Abram and read more at CIO Pages: Top 10 Change Management Models

Give me the prompts!

Dou Austin reports on Concord Music Grp., Inc. v. Anthropic PBC, No. 24-cv-03811-EKL (SVK) (N.D. Cal. Dec. 18, 2025) where California Magistrate Judge Susan van Keulen "granted in part Anthropic's Requests for Production of prompts and outputs." The judge granted "their request for the production of all prompts and outputs submitted by investigators and client-witnesses during the post-suit investigation (but not attorney prompts), but denying their request for prompts and outputs from Publishers' pre-suit investigation." Be sure to read more at eDiscoveryToday: Anthropic's Requests for Production of Prompts and Outputs Granted in Part: eDiscovery Case Law
